Farewell MaryAnn

October 9, 2012 in Recent Events

After the service on Sunday 16th September we held a lunch to celebrate MaryAnn’s time with us and to say goodbye to her, Keith Calum and Aileen. Around 100 members and friends packed the Hall for the soup and sandwich lunch and the presentation.

Presentations were made to the whole family and thanks to all members of the congregation who contributed so generously to the gifts.

Thanks in particular to Alison Yelland, Noel Proven and Neil Proven and all the soup makers for making the event possible and making it run so smoothly and also to Craig Robertson for his eloquent tribute to MaryAnn following on the tribute he paid to her on our behalf at the Presbytery meeting on 11th September.

The Sion Men’s Singing Group

Spiritual Songs in Simplicity

The Sion Men’s Choir from Holland came to St Anne’s on Friday 14th September to perform the first of three Concerts in the Edinburgh area.

The choir, over 60 strong, sang a wide repertoire of religious and secular music, a mixture of English and Dutch and were accompanied by their organist.

The Sanctuary was fairly full, with a large proportion of the audience being wives and families of the singers.

Interval refreshments were ably catered for by the Friday Guides who had set up the Hall with tables and chairs to accommodate the large numbers.

MaryAnn introduced the Choir and explained some of the items, then concluded the concert with thanks.

An excellent evening’s entertainment.

Building Foundations

As most will know the Presbytery of Edinburgh have asked that all congregations participate in the National Stewardship Campaign this year. In Stewardship we are all asked to reconsider our “gifts” and our offering of these “gifts” to the work of Christ’s church.

The Stewardship sub committee are proposing to link St Anne’s Stewardship Season with the Centenary of the laying of the Foundation Stone at St. Anne’s and are planning events from Sunday 20 May until Sunday 27 May 2012.

On Sunday 20th May we are to have the pleasure of welcoming Rev. Liz Henderson, minister of Richmond Craigmillar and Moderator of Edinburgh Presbytery, to preach. The service will be followed by a soup lunch after which people will be encouraged to go along to the “Heart and Soul” event being held in Princes St. Gardens.

During the ensuing week on the evenings of Monday 21st, Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th , two District Groups will receive invitations to come along to the church to share fellowship, some light refreshment and review their commitment to the life of the Church. Those who cannot come on the date of their invitation will be given the option of an alternative evening.

On Friday 25th May there will be an evening communion help in the Apse at 7pm.   This will follow a day of the church being open from 10am – 4pm, as this date is the official date of the Centenary.   We conclude the week dedicated to Stewardship with a special service on Sunday 27th May. The service is likely to include a celebration of Holy Communion.

Please mark this special week in your diary, as it would be wonderful to welcome as many church members as possible to this time of worship and re-dedication.
