"Windows on His World"

This is the title of a series of articles written by members of St Anne's and published in its Magazine until early this year.  What was the thinking behind such an ambitious venture?

Hopefully the name says it all!  The earth and everything on it is God's.  We - His creation for whom Jesus died - should be aware of what is happening in the world so that we might better understand it, contribute whenever possible and be better informed to pray about it.

It has been heartening to learn that many people have enjoyed the articles and, not  surprising, that some have been distressed reading about war, starvation, crime, poverty, greed, racial discrimination, world health issues and politicians we find it hard to respect.  We have never been short of prayer or discussion topics and as some readers have told us - of challenges to our Christian faith.  That was, from the first article, what we wanted to do.

We are delighted to learn that some of our friends in St Andrew's Church in Lusaka, Zambia (the twin church of St Anne's Edinburgh) have also been reading "Windows" on the Web and honoured that, as from now, some articles will come from them - something welcomed by St Anne's Minister and Session.

Each submitted paper, never more than 500 words, must be original, topical and faith-based, any references being in Vancouver style.  It will be read by the World Issues Team and the Editor they appoint, then comments and suggestions passed on to the author.  This will be yet another exciting aspect of Twinning.

As with all magazines, space is always at a premium.  Nevertheless we hope the "new" Windows will generate comments and questions not only in our two churches but also from worldwide readers of the Internet.  May each article be a real "window" looking at His World and His people, challenging and deepening our faith.

Anyone who would like to contribute an article, whether from St. Andrews or St. Anne’s is invited to discuss what they have in mind with Dr Derek Doyle, Editor, The World Issues Team (Tel. UK 0131 334 3168), c/o St Anne's Church Office, 1 Kaimes  Road, Edinburgh EH12 6JR.
